Just for fun, think of your life as a delightful romantic comedy. As your light, humorous love story unfolds towards a happy ending, you need background music. In the man-woman folk tales of country music you’ll find some of the most sincere straight-forward expressions of romantic love. You might want to put some country music in the sound track.
Rock ‘n roll was nothing but fun back at its beginning. As it grew into pop-rock and then into pop a lot of music was created by many artists –Bob Dylan, Elton John, Paul Simon, U2 - that speaks of higher spiritual aspiration; but none more than John Lennon in “Imagine” - “No need for greed or hunger, a brotherhood of man, Imagine all the people Sharing all the world...” - on the Lennon Legend: The Very Best of John Lennon CD.
Country and pop music are often criticized for being simple or even simple minded, but sometimes its good to see life as nothing very complicated at all. In pop it might be “Lady in Red,” that plays in your mind while you’re looking at someone who is actually wearing blue; or you’re a woman looking at a man.
It’s just the words, not all the words just perhaps a phrase: “I've never seen you looking so lovely as you did tonight. I've never seen you shine so bright.” It’s how the words blend with the melody in “Lady in Red” on The Very Best of Chris de Burgh CD that makes your heart dance.
Or it might not be man-woman love at all that makes you hum as you create a simple uncomplicated joyous life story out of the stuff that happens to you. It might be the Luther Vandross rendition of Dance With My Father Again “Back when I was a child before life removed all the innocence my father would lift me high and dance with my mother and me.”
